Wade MacPherson of the Eganville and District Sportsman's Club welcomes anyone with an interest in recreational shooting to an open house event this Saturday.
It’s an opportunity to learn about and try shooting sports in a safe and encouraging environment, courtesy of the Eganville & District Sportsman’s Club (EDSC).
EDSC member Wade MacPherson explains the unique June 1 event.
The event is open to all ages and you are encouraged to bring your friends and family. Under the guidance of experienced range safety officers, guests can participate in several marksmanship activities, including archery, handguns, long range/rifle shooting, and more. No firearms licence or experience is required and all necessary safety equipment and instruction will be provided.
The Eganville and District Sportsman’s Club was created in 1978 and sits at just shy of 250 members, explains MacPherson, a competitive target shooter who’s been a member since 2021.
He was first introduced to shooting as an Air Cadet and said the attraction to that was largely based on the pursuit of precision. Many things affect your performance – steadiness, breathing, trigger control.
And at EDSC, he’s found a community that shares those interests. MacPherson said he enjoys the mentorship and teamwork that he’s found amongst fellow members.
“You don’t have to look very far to find someone who’s willing to lend you a hand or show you how to get better,” he said.
He encourages anyone with an interest to stop by the club Saturday and see what it’s all about.
MacPherson has high hopes for the day.
Lunch (cash only) can be purchased on-site. Attendees are asked to please dress for the weather and remember sunscreen and bug spray as required. No guest-owned firearms will be permitted at this event and for safety reasons, the public is asked to please leave pets at home.
The Eganville & District Sportsman’s Club is located at 334 Gurlitz Rd. in Douglas. The National Range Day Open House runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.
