On April 11, 2024, at approximately 3:55 p.m., officers from the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) swiftly responded to an incident involving a single ATV rollover on Murray Lane, in proximity to the 523 Highway within the confines of the Township of South Algonquin.
Upon preliminary examination, law enforcement determined that the ATV operator experienced a loss of control, leading to the rollover collision. The individual, a 16-year-old resident of South Algonquin Township, was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention by paramedics. Fortunately, their injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. Accompanying the operator was a 16-year-old passenger who emerged from the incident unscathed. Remarkably, no towing assistance was necessitated. Presently, the circumstances surrounding the occurrence are subject to ongoing investigation.
In light of this incident, authorities emphasize the legal obligation for off-road vehicle operators and passengers to don helmets as mandated by law. Ensuring adherence to safety protocols is paramount for all recreational ATV riders. Let’s prioritize safe riding practices.
