Entering its ninth week of striking, the National Defence Union (NPF) Local 680 took a community-focused approach on March 12th. The picketers, led by President Caeley Stevens, engaged in a garbage cleanup while sharing information about their ongoing strike. President Caeley Stevens explained to myFM the reasons behind their decision to engage in community service during the strike.

Their cleanup spanned from Petawawa Blvd. to the Ultramar gas station, Laurentian Drive, Victoria Street, Civic Centre Road, the Catwalk in Centennial Park, and Fish Hatchery Park, completed in under four hours. Stevens expressed their desire to return to work soon but affirmed their commitment to continuing the cleanup during the strike.
Encouraged, the picketers plan to continue the garbage pickup this Thursday, extending their efforts to additional side roads not covered on March 12th.
