Renfrew Victoria Hospital has their eyes on a specific piece of equipment that could solve a lot of issues.
President and CEO Julia Boudreau says the hospital is asking Ontario Health and the Ministry of Health for approval to purchase and install an MRI machine, which would help front-line physicians in their emergency department as well as dialysis patients in their nephrology department.
Boudreau says patients with kidney issues have a high risk of disease and need frequent visits to RVH sites, and having an MRI machine locally would keep them from travelling to Pembroke or Ottawa for required imaging.
She adds that RVH and its partners would be responsible for the cost of the project, but that’s not an issue.
Of the 26 nephrology departments in Ontario, Renfrew Victoria Hospital is currently the only one without MRI capabilities on site.
The proposal has the support of the Champlain Medical Imaging Network Steering Committee, and a timeline for the project will be put together once approval has been granted.
