The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP laid 14 Highway Traffic Act charges and issued 10 HTA warnings in relation to Operation Decibel. The UOV OPP participated in Operation Decibel between August 21 and September 1, 2023, due to concerns of loud, illegally modified vehicles in the detachment area.
The campaign aimed to address loud and unnecessary noise from motor vehicles which have been modified by removing the mufflers or modifying the exhaust system. HTA charges were laid for improper muffler, no muffler, unnecessary noise, improper tires, and improper lighting.
UOV OPP Detachment Commander Acting Inspector MaryAnn MacNeil stated, “The results of Operation Decibel clearly show the dedication by UOV OPP officers and the need for enforcement and education of those who drive loud, illegally modified vehicles.” Although Operation Decibel has concluded, officers continue to be on the lookout for loud and illegally modified vehicles year-round.
