Kids aged 4 to 12 might just find their new favourite sport on September 10th.
The Upper Ottawa Valley Ringette Association invites them for a free Come Try event at the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre in Renfrew, as Coach Dave Fortin explains that the sport has one major difference from hockey that makes it perfect for teaching teamwork.
Fortin says that the focus on passing and working together to win makes the sport a good one for young children to get involved in and learn from.
The Come Try Ringette events are also a perfect opportunity for the UOVRA to develop the next wave of players who will keep the sport alive in the Ottawa Valley, as he explains that the aftermath of the pandemic and an increased focus on girls hockey have seen their numbers dwindle in some parts of the region.
Keeping up word of mouth and a focus on the free try-out events allows them to build and maintain interest across the association’s boundaries.
Kids need to come with their own helmet, skates, and gloves, but ringette sticks will be available if needed.
You can learn more about Ringette, what kids can learn from it, and pre-register for the September 10th event in Renfrew at the official Come Try Ringette website.
