A new accessible play piece has been added to the Civic Centre’s Civitan Playland, thanks to the generous donation of the Greater Petawawa Civitan and Petawawa Rotary Clubs. The play piece, which was installed earlier this spring, is wheelchair-friendly and has spacious seats for more children to enjoy.
The Greater Petawawa Civitan Club has been working on this project for several years, with the aim of making Civitan Playland more inclusive for all. The Civitan Club President, Brian Miner, thanked the weekly bingo players and the Rotary Club for their contribution.
myFM news spoke with Mary McCaw, The Director of Community Services for the Town of Petawawa, who shared her perspective on the new inclusive piece.
McCaw continued on what this means for the town as a whole.
Rotarian, Ed Chow, noted the club was proud to partner with the Civitan Club to bring this piece of accessible play equipment to the community’s main playground. Chow acknowledged the individuals that made this donation possible sharing, “Funds have been provided through Rotary by volunteer participation in hosting at the Delta Gaming Centre in Pembroke, which distributes profits to community charities for community purposes. As well, money was donated in honour and memory of long-time Rotarian of Petawawa, Lynne Sawford.”
