Backyard Astronomer Gary Boyle is trying to recruit up to 500 star-gazers to the parking lot of the Carp Public Library Friday night.
Boyle is hoping third-time lucky, after the last two planned star parties were cancelled due to weather.
In an effort to entice prospective amateurs to the hobby, he says the dedicated members of the Ottawa Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will set up their telescopes to show the wonders of the night.
Boyle observes past events have seen a few dozen telescopes and hundreds of visitors.
Royal Astronomical Society members will try again this Friday July 21 (rain date July 22) at sunset in the parking lot of the Carp Branch of the Ottawa Public Library.
He says it’s a great opportunity to look at the wonders of the cosmos and ask questions.
It’s a free event starting at sunset- but remember to bring the mosquito repellant.

Gary Boyle says there are similar events planned over the new moon periods of August and September.
