One year of construction down, and the works half done at the Pembroke Regional Hospital. The Surgical Redevelopment Project is moving into it’s next phase, with a brief move for the inpatient surgical program.
PRH President and CEO Sabine Mersmann said that while the hospital recognizes the impact construction has on the patient environment in terms of noise and changes like this, the end result will be well worth it.
“For our patients, completion of this project next summer will mean a refreshed and upgraded inpatient environment with four additional private rooms, additional washrooms, air conditioning upgrades and more. We thank everyone for their patience as we work towards this result,” Mrs. Mersmann said.
Over this year, these efforts primarily impacted the third-floor tower, and included demolishing old operating rooms and the original chapel to clear the slate for a new Surgical Day Care wing and a home for new additions like an endoscopy suite, multi-procedural room, and a dedicated area for device scope reprocessing.
Beth Brownlee, Vice-President of Clinical and Support Services said, “Effective June 8th, our inpatient Surgical program will be moved to the second floor of Tower A where it will remain for approximately one year,”
Brownlee also said the project will now move into a new phase which will require the relocation of the current Surgical inpatient wing so that upgrades to that area can take place.
she added, “From a patient perspective, very little will change, they will still have the same health care team, the same equipment, the same layout and the same quality patient experience they have now. It will just take place on a different floor.”
She also noted that in order to alleviate confusion for those visiting Surgical patients, wayfinding signage in the building will be temporarily updated and next of kin will be clearly informed about the location of their loved ones when they are brought in for their procedures.
