We’ve heard lots about experiments with the four-day work week; what would you think about four-day school?
The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE), which operates elementary schools in Carleton Place and soon, Arnprior- as well as the combined panel Jeanne-Lajoie facility in Pembroke has unveiled a four-day school week pilot project to be put to the test at two CECCE schools in Ottawa starting this fall.
The move is pending ministerial approval and would be delivered at École élémentaire catholique l’Étoile-de-l’Est in east Ottawa and École élémentaire catholique Saint-Rémi in west Ottawa.
Families whose children attend these two schools can decide if they want to participate in the pilot or stay with the conventional five-day school week.
The total hours of instruction for the school year would remain unchanged.
Classes will begin one week earlier (August 22nd) and end three days later (June 25th, 2024) than the typical school year.
Each school day will last 38 minutes longer.
CECCE Chair Johanne Lacombe says the board will seek feedback from participating families and staff throughout the process to find out what they like and don’t like about the format.
