It’s a case of neighbours supporting neighbours in the Ottawa Valley. The City of Pembroke is applying for funding to build a new aquatic fitness and community centre and now have support from two other municipalities.
myFM previously reported that Petawawa Town Council would write a letter of support for the City of Pembroke as they apply for grant funding. Whitewater Region is also supporting Pembroke as they apply for the Green and Inclusive Community Building Program Grant.
In a letter from Pembroke Mayor Ron Gervais to Whitewater Region, it indicates 78% of residents in Pembroke and the surrounding area would like to see a new facility built. Gervais says the Township of Whitewater Region represents 51 percent of the City of Pembroke’s “other municipality” category for annual swim permits.
Whitewater Region Mayor Neil Nicholson says many community members would experience great benefits from a new Aquatic, Fitness and Community Facility in Pembroke, and are in support of this project moving forward.
The City of Pembroke says it would be impossible for them to finance such an aquatic fitness and community facility and need federal and or provincial funding. A completed grant application for funding for a new pool will be submitted by Pembroke city staff by February 28th.
