A competitor with roots in the Ottawa Valley will be racing across Canada starting this week.
Renfrew-born Julie Tower is competing on Canada’s Ultimate Challenge, racing with her team it the show turns Canada into one epic obstacle course.
“Juls” tells myFM that while she has eight years of obstacle course racing experience, Canada’s Ultimate Challenge kept everyone on their toes.
She also credits her team’s coach, Olympic speed skater Gilmore Junio, for letting them play to their strengths and providing valuable insight on the challenges that often proved correct.
She calls the experience truly amazing and unique, adding that she never quite knew what to expect from each location and event the show put in front of them.
It was an experience that has also taught Julie, generally a solo competitor, a lot about herself and how to work as part of team.
Julie and Team Orange will be exploring the nation’s beautiful and diverse landscape with their eyes on the grand prize: a trip to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Julie now lives in York, but still has family in Renfrew.
She adds that they’re excited to cheer her on when Canada’s Ultimate Challenge premieres on CBC and CBC Gem Thursday, February 16th at 8:00pm.
