The Ontario Winter Games are coming to Renfrew County in 23 days. The event will feature two opening ceremonies at Ma-te-Way in Renfrew on Thursday, February 2nd and again Thursday, February 9th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Chair of the 2023 Ontario Winter Games and Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon says they will be using all 1,400 hotel beds in the county to host thousands of athletes, coaches, officials and spectators. Emon expects the Ontario Winter Games to provide a $5-million to $6-million economic spinoff for the County of Renfrew.
In terms of transporting athletes, the Warden adds they need 60 to 80 bus trips a day. Emon says they currently have around 830 volunteers and are looking for 1,000 people to help out. You can sign up to be a volunteer for the 2023 Ontario Winter Games on their website.
Sporting venues will be spread across Renfrew County with speedskating and bowling held in Ottawa. The Ontario Winter Games will also leave behind a legacy fund to help those who may not be able to sign themselves or their children up for sports.
The 2023 Ontario Winter Games in Renfrew County will be held February 2nd to 5th and February 9th to 12th.
