The Conservative Party of Canada has a new leader and our local Conservative MP couldn’t be happier. Pierre Poilievre won the vote over the weekend to become new party leader, and as he says, the next Prime Minister of Canada. Cheryl Gallant tells us that her party as new sense of excitement.
Gallant tells us that she was thrilled to see a new generation get involved with the voting process.
Our local MP says there is a new sense of hope within her team.
The 43-year-old longtime member of Parliament won on the first ballot with nearly 70 per cent of support. One former member of the Conservative Party went on to say that Poilievre won by appealing to many interests in the party all at once through a larger message, rather than courting specific groups through direct policy appeals. During the leadership campaign, Poilievre went after the Bank of Canada, accusing it of shirking its responsibility and allowing itself to be an “ATM” for Trudeau’s spending habit. He also said that if he became prime minister, he would fire Bank of Canada governor.
