Changes are being proposed that would see the federal riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke renamed to Algonquin-Nipissing-Pembroke. Along with the renaming, there would be a slight change to the boundaries of the riding. If the changes are approved, Greater Madawaska would no longer be included in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke and would be part of the newly renamed Lanark-Frontenac riding.
As part of a special council meeting on Friday, August 26th, Mayor Brian Hunt raised some concerns noting the provincial boundaries would likely follow and he’s afraid Greater Madawaska could be become part of Lanark County.
