The fourth annual Guatemalan Open is coming up at Whitetail Golf Club. Event organizer and co-founder of Houses to Homes Canada Jeannelle Romain says funds raised will go to help build homes for people living on dirt floors.
Howard Winters is the other co-founder of Houses to Homes Canada and says last year they built four homes for families in Guatemala.
Winters says for $3,500 they are able to build a new 13 foot by 19 foot home in a week adding they also supply bunk beds, a stove to cook, a water filtration system, food for a year and education supplies.
Romain says they often get asked why they are raising money for people in Guatemala and says it’s because they don’t have any support systems like food banks, welfare and community housing.
The annual golf tournament is hosted at Whitetail Golf Course outside of Eganville on August 27th.
Registration and information is available online and each participant will have their name entered into a draw to a have a home in Guatemala dedicated to their team or to a person of their choice.
