The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) is updating the dress code for the first time in roughly 50-years.
This means things like face tattoos, ear piercings, coloured hair, certain jewelry, long fingernails, sunglasses and backpacks are allowed with certain restrictions.
References to gender have been removed from uniforms and new recruits will no longer have to shave their head in basic training.
With the recently announced changes, behaviour such as chewing gum, slouching, placing hands in pockets, smoking or eating on the street and walking hand in hand is no longer forbidden.
The CAF says discussions have been ongoing for some time and the decision to update the dress instructions was not made lightly.
The updated dress code for soldiers will take effect early in September 2022.
