Renfrew OPP have charged two people who were driving stolen vehicles.
Police received a report of a stolen vehicle from a residence on Highway 17 in Whitewater Township on March 2nd, around 1:40 p.m.
Officers located the suspect vehicle and charged 28-year-old Al-Asadi YAMEN, of Gatineau, with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and dangerous operation.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on April 6, 2022.
The next day (March 3rd, 2022) around 8:35pm, officers received several traffic complaints about a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 in Horton Township.
Officers conducted an investigation and determined the suspect vehicle was stolen.
Police located the vehicle on Highway 17 and 23-year-old Zachary Thorne of Sudbury was charged with flight from police officer, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and indecent act contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was also charged with driving with no license, speeding and for being a novice driver with blood alcohol concentration above zero.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing via video link on March 9, 2022.
