There will be no special service medal struck to commemorate Ottawa police chief Peter Sloly’s handling of the Freedom Convoy occupation in the Nation’s Capital.
The embattled former police chief submitted his resignation this morning (Tuesday morning) to the city’s Police Services Board.
The Canadian Press reports that City councillor Riley Brockington tweeted the news.
Sloly has been widely criticized for how the police have handled the protest on the streets of downtown Ottawa, with little demonstrated enforcement over the past three weeks.
Ottawans have grown increasingly frustrated by the disruption of residential neighbourhoods and the street party atmosphere on Wellington outside the Parliament buildings that has included a gym, bouncy castles, a hot tub and stage erected, as officers appeared to stand and watch.
