The hospital in Barry’s Bay has put out a statement ahead of a planned protest today (October 22nd, 2021).
CEO of the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay, Julia Boudreau, says protecting staff, physicians and vulnerable patients is their top priority.
Boudreau says the vaccination policy they have put in place, under Directive #6 from the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health, is in line with the majority of hospitals in the province.
The St. Francis Memorial Hospital says if staff make the choice to not be vaccinated and are placed on leave, contingency plans are in place to protect and maintain programs and services.
90 percent of staff and doctors at the hospital in Barry’s Bay are vaccinated against COVID-19.

Data has shown that eight weeks after COVID-19 vaccination in health care workers, outbreaks in acute care and long-term care in Ontario were reduced by 89% in long-term care residents and 79% in long-term care health care workers.
Data also shows that unvaccinated individuals are seven times more likely to catch COVID-19, 25 times more likely to be hospitalized and 60 times more likely to be in the ICU compared to fully vaccinated individuals (Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, September 28, 2021).
