Today is Next Gen Farmer Day on 104.9 myFM sponsored by MacGregor Concrete.
Here we feature 15-year-old farmer Austin Roggie.
Austin has been farming for over half his life and started when he was about six or seven.
He lives with his family on a 200 acre beef and chicken farm in Round Lake, Ontario.
He tells myFM he grows vegetables and sells them to be able to pay for hockey and chicken feed.
Austin contributes around the farm when he’s not in school or playing hockey.
He also works with big machinery and also cuts hay.
Austin says he would rather spend time outside than indoors playing video games.
He says one of the most rewarding things with growing vegetables is watching your hard work pay off.
This summer Austin says on a tight schedule, him and his dad were able to build a greenhouse in a few days where he moved his 480 tomato plants and other veggies.
Austin talked about no fill farming and how technology will play an important role in the industry going forward.
Austin hopes to inspire other youth to get out, be active, and get involved in farming.
myFM is proud to feature Austin Roggie as a “Next Gen Farmer”.
