Sleepwell Property Management is looking to turn an old building in Pembroke into a 10-unit apartment building.
The address is 358 Pembroke Street East, across from the Money Mart.
In a report Pembroke council will review tonight (July 13th, 2021), it says the interior would be converted to permit 10 dwelling units.
The Zoning by-law in Pembroke requires a minimum of 500 square feet for a 1-bedroom apartment, however there are six 1-bedroom units proposed from 431 square feet to 499 square feet in size.
At a planning advisory and adjustment committee meeting last month (June 23rd, 2021), Councillor Christine Reavie asked if any of the units would be accessible.
Sleepwell says physical limitations of the old building prevented that, but future projects would include accessible units.
Council will need to approve the rezoning of the building to allow for the 10-unit apartment building.
The City of Pembroke Official Plan encourages all forms of residential intensification that creates a potential supply of new units.
Pembroke council will start at 6:00pm tonight (July 13th) and can be viewed online here.
