The Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) is sharing a story about a local resident who celebrated her 101st birthday and received her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine this week.
The PRH says on Wednesday, June 16th, 2021, Pembroke resident Millie Leadbeater celebrated her 101st birthday and the following day received her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Pembroke Memorial Centre.
Millie was accompanied by her daughter Mary Jackson and she says getting the vaccine is important to her so that she can once again enjoy some of the activities that have been restricted due to the pandemic.
The PRH says Millie was born and raised in Nova Scotia and is a World War II veteran who enjoys music, drinking scotch and still plays piano.
Millie hopes that full vaccination will mean a return to the regular “jam” sessions she enjoyed pre-COVID with other local musicians. She looks forward to finally being able to interact more with family, friends and children in her neighbourhood.
Hospital staff say Millie felt fine after receiving the vaccine and noted she didn’t even feel it go in.
