The Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) has announced a significant next step to its efforts to expand reliable cellular coverage in our region.
At a virtual press conference Friday (March 19th), EORN Chair J. Murray Jones announced its successful corporate partner.
Rogers will look to expand its 5G coverage in Eastern Ontario as is contributing big bucks to join EORN’s initiative.
Rogers spokesperson Dean Prevost says work starts immediately.
Rogers terms the initiative the largest wireless private-public partnership in Canadian history.
Its 300 existing towers will be augmented by 350 new towers and construction and renovation will take five years to complete.
The federal and provincial governments are each investing $71 million, with a $10 million contribution from the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus and Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus.
The Canadian telecom giant’s share is the biggest contribution, at 150 million dollars.
