The County of Renfrew has been notified of two additional residents at Miramichi Lodge who have tested positive for COVID-19.
The news comes after a resident at the long-term care home tested positive over the weekend.
There’s currently three positive cases in residents, with only one exhibiting symptoms. The individuals are all are stable isolating in the Home’s isolation unit.
All residents on Home Areas 2B and 3A are being isolated to their rooms for the time being as an added precaution.
As of this time 96% of the residents received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine on February 8th and are scheduled to receive their second dose on schedule.
While a single dose of vaccine has been shown to significantly reduce serious illness, Dr. Robert Cushman, RCDHU Medical Officer of Health has noted the phenomenon where the labs have been reporting low-level positive tests in asymptomatic residents who have received the vaccine.
There are no positive cases amongst staff. Miramichi Lodge staff were vaccinated Feb. 25th and essential care givers are scheduled to receive their vaccine this Saturday and Sunday.
Cushman has directed that only staff enter the Home until further notice, adding, “Miramichi Lodge and the RCDHU are on high alert and kudos to the Home’s staff who are taking all the necessary precautions to contain the outbreak”.
Contact persons for each resident are reminded that they will be contacted directly if there are any concerns. In addition, the Home is increasing electronic communication to families to three times a week.
The County of Renfrew thanks the community for its understanding during this difficult time and assures the public it is continuing to make decisions in the best interest of our residents and staff to ensure their health and safety is first and foremost.
