Former Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Sean Conway has been named a recipient of the Order of Ontario.
Conway, a native of Barry’s Bay, served as the riding’s Provincial member for 28 years following his election in 1975 at the age of twenty-four.
Sean Conway twice served as Ontario’s Minister of Education in the David Peterson government from 1985 through 1990, as well as filling roles as Minister of Mines, Minister of Colleges and Universities, Minister of Government Services and Government House Leader.
Conway did not seek re-election in 2002.
Since leaving politics, Sean Conway has filled roles with Queen’s University in Kingston, and currently lectures with both St. Michael’s College at U of T and at Ryerson University.
The Pembroke Observer has spoken with Conway, who indicated his pleasant surprise at the New Year’s Day announcement, and an investiture ceremony is being scheduled for a future date.
His appointment is officially for calendar year 2019, as the Ford Government had put the awards on hold while criterea were revamped.
