The Township of Laurentian Valley is expected to pass their budget for the upcoming year. Council will discuss the report at their meeting tomorrow night (Tuesday, December 15th). The draft tax rate impact for 2021 shows an increase of 8.48% based on 2020 assessments.
If the 2021 budget is passed, homeowners in Laurentian Valley can expect to pay an additional $33.98 for every $100,000 of assessment.
With the average household in Laurentian Valley valued at $254,820, this translates to an an increase of $86.58.
In 2020, the budget reflected a 2.4% increase to the tax rate which worked out to $9.37 per $100,000 in property assessment.
The 2021 budget for Laurentian Valley includes roughly $12-million in spending. The township is budgeting $2.1-million for road work, $1.3-million for policing, $470,000 for waste management, $360,000 for a joint recreation agreement, $346,000 for fire protection services, $338,000 on vehicles and equipment and $195,000 for council salaries and benefits. Only $3,700 is in the budget for emergency management, compared to $495,000 in 2019 after the flooding.
