The team at Custom Draperies, Blinds and Bedding in Pembroke has been working hard the past couple of weeks sewing personal protective equipment (PPE) for local health care workers. Drapery manager, Noella Stevens, says so far they’ve sewed over 300 caps, over 300 headbands and 200 bags that have all been donated to the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH). Stevens says they donated their time and equipment to help out in the community.
Stevens says they’ve spent the last three weeks producing supplies and are taking a little break, but if the hospital asks for more supplies they will continue to make them. Like many other businesses, Custom Draperies, Blinds and Bedding is closed to the public, but they are still taking payments over the phone with curbside pick-up or local delivery available. Stevens says it was fun to be back in the sewing room and helping out where they can.
Stevens says she has been working with the owner Eileen Malette, head seamstress Tanya Roxanne and sewer Shahla Jaber. She adds other family members have also helped and volunteered their time including Tessa and Taylor Malette along with Michaela and Mitchell Stevens.
