Local grocery stores are taking preventative measures to protect residents in our community from the potential spread of COVID-19. The owner and operator of Hyska’s Your Independent Grocer in Petawawa, Valerie Hyska, says they’re asking people to reserve the first hour of the day (between 8:00am and 9:00am) for senior and vulnerable shoppers. She says customers who need to shop first thing are asked to keep their space and give others the priority in line.
The shelves look low because of people overbuying and stocking up on supplies, but Hyska adds they will be replenishing supply and are recommending that you only buy what you need.
Hyska’s Your Independent Grocer will offer an expansion to the senior shopping program for the next couple of weeks. Residents in Petawawa who aren’t able to get out during this time are asked to contact the grocery store before 4:00 pm on Thursday (613-687-5000) to have arrangements made to deliver items to their home.
Hyska says they’ve also removed bulk bins for buns and replaced them with packaged goods and also replaced the coffee station with a hand washing station.
