The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) has suspended rotating strikes and will be back at the bargaining table tomorrow (Monday, February 24th).
OECTA President, Liz Stuart, released a statement following the massive province wide walk-out that closed all English, French, public and Catholic schools on Friday. Stuart says it was an incredible display of passion and dedication by education workers across Ontario. She adds their goal has always been to negotiate a deal and it’s clear their efforts have been effective in forcing the government back to the bargaining table to work towards a fair agreement. The parties have been called back to the table tomorrow and been assured that discussions will continue to be meaningful. As a result all rotating strikes at English Catholic schools in the province have been suspended for the upcoming week. The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board would have been impacted by a strike on Thursday, February 27th .
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) has announced job action on Friday, February 28th, however the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) will not be impacted by this strike day.
French schools will see another round of rotating strikes this week. The AEFO has announced Jeanne-Lajoie and Equinoxe schools in Pembroke will be closed on Thursday, February 27th. A protest outside the office of MPP John Yakabuski is planned between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.
At this point no information could be found regarding upcoming strikes from the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO). Local school boards expect to receive more information tomorrow (February 24th) regarding Phase 6 of the job action planned by the ETFO if no agreement is reached.
