It’s a big vision for the waterfront in Deep River. A local group has proposed to build the first nuclear museum of technology in Canada next to the local Yacht Club. Public relations board member with the Society for the Preservation of Canada’s Nuclear Heritage, Abra O’Leary, says the proposed facility could be a multi-purpose building serving as a visitor centre, location for business conferences, school trips and more.
O’Leary says they hope to have something built within the next ten years. She says they will feature nuclear heritage items from across Canada with planned partnerships with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Ontario Power Generation, Bruce Power, the federal government, Town of Deep River and more.
At the town council meeting last night (Feb. 19th), councillor Terry Myers put forward a motion seconded by councillor Kathy Hughes to support efforts to establish the nuclear technology museum. This resolution doesn’t commit the town to anything financially or lock them into any location for this proposed development. O’Leary was excited to have the support of council as they move forward with plans to bring the first nuclear museum in the country to Deep River.
