Upper Ottawa Valley OPP took extra precautions during a big weapons and drug bust at a residence in Pembroke last Thursday because the Christie Street property was quite close to a school.
The joint operation involved members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit, the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), the Provincial Joint-Forces Cannabis Team and the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment as well as the UOV OPP Crime Unit.
Detachment Commander Steph Neufeld says the extra precautions were warranted.
Officers seized numerous firearms, a no-longer-functional rocket launcher and other prohibited devices.
They also bagged a large quantity of illicit drugs.
Randy Terris McLaughlin, age 27 of Pembroke has been charged with Importing a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, and unauthorized Possession of a Weapon.
Neufeld notes the individual has not been convicted of any of the charges related, and further counts are pending.
