Fellowes High School in Pembroke and ADHS in Arnprior have installed new rubberized tracks. Fellowes Principal Amy Johnson says they’ve been getting requests from other local schools to host upcoming sporting events in the spring. Johnson says this also opens the door for Fellowes to possibly host Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSA) championships. She adds crews are painting the lines this week and it could take up to two weeks for the surface to be fully cured and ready to go.
The track will hopefully be complete in time for the first home football game of the season for the Fellowes Falcons next Friday, if not the game will be played at the Civic Centre in Petawawa. Johnson says the cost of the new track comes in somewhere around $900,000 and is something they’ve been planning for a few years now. ADHS Principal Tom Havey says the football team can still use the field for their home opener this week despite the track not being 100% complete.
The principal of ADHS says when the contractor is available they will come paint the lines to finish off the work. Havey says the track behind the school has been dyed red to match the school colours.
Havey says it wasn’t advisable to host competitive sporting events on the old track. The ADHS principal adds now they’ll be able to host the county track meet again.
