The Pembroke Regional Hospital is getting out of the laundry business. The hospital has operated an internal laundry service since its inception in 1878. President and CEO of PRH, Pierre Noel says it wasn’t an easy decision to make, but he feels it was the right move.
CUPE, the local union representing hospital staff says that the proposed laundry closure is just the latest push by the Pembroke hospital to shed work and kill local jobs. In response, Noel says that simply isn’t true. Noting the staff they had working the laundry department have either retired, or have been moved to another department within the hospital. Therefore no jobs have been lost.
