Hydro One is planning some major maintenance between the Des Joachims and Pembroke Transformer Stations. About 90 kilometres of transmission lines and 370 aging wood poles will be replaced during the process. The line crosses the towns of Laurentian Hills, Deep River, Petawawa, and Laurentian Valley. The hydro poles will be replaced with a mix of wood and composite because of significant woodpecker damage to the existing structures. Optical ground wire will be installed in several areas to help protect the line from lightning strikes and a section of idle line by the Tee Lake Junction in Rolphton will be removed. Hydro One says residential outages may be required during construction. All planned outages will be communicated to customers in advance. Crews will be working Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work is expected to start later this month and be completed by the summer of 2021.
