The management team at Mobeez Play Planet in Pembroke are clarifying that no shooting took place at their establishment in Pembroke on Thursday.
Rumors began circulating on social media on the afternoon of Thursday, November 5th that a shooting had taken place in the West End Plaza.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m., Mobeez posted to its Facebook page clarifying that police officers were in the area earlier in the afternoon responding to a false emergency report, commonly known as a “swatting” incident.
“We want to reassure our Mobeez families and community members that, according to the information currently available, there was no shooting and no reported fatalities,” the post reads.
“Although a significant police presence was observed in the area, officers reportedly cleared the scene approximately 15 minutes after arriving.”
The post goes on to say that Mobeez’ management team understands that situations like this can raise concerns and cause confusion, and say the safety of customers and their families is a high priority for them.
They went on to urge residents to avoid spreading unconfirmed information and rumors, saying misinformation can cause unnecessary panic. They also clarified that their update is not an official statement from the OPP.
We’ve contacted the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment for more information and will share additional updates as they become available.
