Temperatures across the Ottawa Valley were in line with normal values in September, but the month was noticeably dryer than normal for the end of summer and start of fall.
That’s according to Environment and Climate Change Canada, which has released its latest monthly weather review for the province of Ontario.
The review states that eastern Ontario, along with parts of the south, experienced average temperatures within one degree of their normal value over the course of the month, while the rest of the province generally experienced slightly warmer than normal temperatures in September.
In terms of precipitation, the valley experienced between 50 and 75 per cent of its normal rainfall last month.
That’s in line with the rest of the province: the agency says almost all of Ontario saw less precipitation than normal, continuing a trend in the north that started earlier in the year and leading to eastern and southern Ontario seeing their most extreme precipitation deficits in months.
Ottawa, the closest city to the valley included in Environment Canada’s more detailed weather breakdown, experienced an average temperature of 15.8 degrees, half a degree warmer than normal. Meanwhile, the city received 56 millimetres of precipitation, 56 per cent of normal for this time of year.
Looking ahead to October, the agency says warmer-than-normal temperatures are expected across much of the province, especially the north and far north, while their precipitation predictions only show a “weak tendency towards below-normal precipitation” east of Lake Superior.
