The Pembroke Lumber Kings wanted two points, but had to settle for a single point in their chase for a playoff spot. The Kings dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the visiting Rockland Nationals, but by earning a point in the loss, they have closed to within one point of the Kemptville 73’s for the final post-season birth in the Central Canada Hockey League.
The 73’s have completed their regular season, but the Kings have four games remaining. If Pembroke can earn two points, the Kings will secure a spot in the post-season tournament. If they get only one point, they will need to play the 73’s in a single play-in game to decide what team goes to the playoffs and if they don’t get any more points, they will miss the post-season.
To close their season, the Kings will complete the third period of a game they were trailing 3-0 to Navan, before the two teams play their regularly scheduled game Tuesday night in Navan. The following night, the Kings are in Ottawa to play the Junior Senators and then they travel to Smiths Falls on Friday before closing their regular season with a matinee against Ottawa on Sunday, March 17th. That will be a redemption ticket game, meaning any unused tickets from the 2023-24 regular season can be used by fans to gain entry to the game.
