A local high school student is hoping to see the community rally behind her chance to make her dreams of country music stardom a reality.
Mikaela Roach, a student at Fellowes High School born and raised in Lake Dore, is one of the top 32 competitors in the Next Great Canadian Country Star competition.
Roach says she’s loved music for her entire life, taking singing lessons starting at six years old, learning the piano at the same time and eventually picking up a guitar at age nine.
A trip to Nashville several years ago helped her decide to pursue a career in the industry.
Roach also says she’s planning to release more of her own music over the coming weeks.
Residents can vote for Roach to move onto the next round on the competition’s website. Votes close November 15th to determine the top 16.
