Plans are coming along for a dedicated hospice in Deep River.
Deep River and District Health President and CEO Janna Hotson says they’re finalizing the design and programming over the coming months and will be submitting it for approval, with the hope that they can start construction next year, and open the doors in 2028.
The hospice dream began after DRDH consulted with the community on what the most pressing health care needs were, and resoundingly, the answer was a hospice.
She says for some residents of the Upper Ottawa Valley, Hospice Renfrew is almost a two hour drive, meaning many miss out on the much-needed service.
Hotson says hospice care is incredibly important, not only for the person at end -of-life, but it also provides wrap-around care for the family and larger community.
