A 17-year-old cyclist has died in hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says the cyclist was involved in a collision on the evening of Oct. 29 on Industrial Ave in Petawawa.
Police says an investigation into the crash was conducted, and a 19-year-old now faces several charges.
“Skylar Fischer, or Petawawa, was charged with offences under the Criminal Code, Cannabis Control Act and Highway Traffic Act,” police say in a media release.
Fischer faces four charges including operation while impaired (drugs), operation causing death, drive vehicle with cannabis readily available, and drive motor vehicle with speed measuring warning device.
They say Fischer will face more consequences because of the incident.
“The accused had their driver’s license suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days,” police say. “The accused was also held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.”
An investigation is still ongoing with the help of an OPP collision reconstructionist and technical collision investigation members.
