Candidates in the Township of Laurentian Valley say they’d talk about amalgamation with neighbouring communities, but there would be some serious questions asked.
The question was asked to candidates “if they would support expanding services with Pembroke and other neighbouring municipalities, and if they would support a formal of potential costs and benefits of amalgamation.”
Here is what each candidate had to say:
Jay Geddes
Alysia Beevis
Travis Czech
Wendy Hewitt
Brian Hugli
Charity Parisian
Jason Schulz
Allan Wren
According to the township’s website, Laurentian Valley was amalgamated in 2000 to include the former Township of Stafford-Pembroke, and former Township of Alice and Fraser.
The province says municipalities may restructure to accommodate future growth, combine resources and build capacity, realign boundaries that pass through or are adjacent to a road or building.
Election Day is Oct. 26.
