The Combermere Recreation Committee has been named the recipient of the Madawaska Valley Mayor’s Appreciation Award for 2026.
The annual award recognizes a volunteer organization or group operating in the township.
The self-funded, volunteer-run Committee of Council organizes community events and raises money for capital projects. In recent years, it has contributed nearly $10,000 toward equipment at Combermere recreational facilities.
The committee also announced a $25,000 contribution this year toward rehabilitation of the Combermere Outdoor Rink.
Mayor David Shulist praised the group’s fundraising efforts and its role in organizing events including family skating parties, community dinners, dances and the Ladies Yuletide Tea.
The rink project is also being supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and municipal reserves.
The committee will join township staff, council members and provincial representatives for a ribbon cutting at the Combermere Outdoor Rink on Saturday, Sept. 26.
