Two women are over $10,000 richer after they were selected for weekly wins in the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation’s (PRHF) weekly jackpot.
Judith Dearden was the week 12 winner – capturing $10,940 – while Tracey Lesaux won $10,127 after winning in week 13.
PRHF executive director Roger Martin says each week a winner is announced and while the foundation is thrilled for these winners, it’s the overall community that is going to benefit from the funds raised.
“We’re thrilled for Dearden and Lesaux, and grateful for the incredible community support we’ve seen through Catch the Ace,” Martin says. “Every ticket purchased helps bring important medical equipment to our hospital and supports quality of care close to home.”
According to PRHF community engagement specialist Stacy Taylor, the campaign has grown more exponentially over the past few years, and it’s all due to community support for the hospital.
“It’s amazing, the community has been buying their tickets and supporting our Together We Care campaign, and helping with the hospital’s needs,” she says.
Taylor says this round of Catch the Ace – since June – has been raised amounts the foundation has never seen.
“We’re running about two and a half times higher on a weekly basis than what we’ve seen in the past,” she says. “This round has generated $277,401.”
Funds from Catch the Ace are divided up in the community, with 50 per cent going to help purchase supplies for the hospital; supplies Taylor says are needed in each department for day-to-day operations.
“It’s a great way for us to fill in some of the gaps where provincial funding isn’t available for some equipment,” she says.
Week 15 winner for Catch the Ace is expected to take home a guaranteed prize of $15,000.
