Police are warning the public against sharing unverified information, images and video circulating on social media in connection with a stabbing in Deep River.
The Ontario Provincial Police and Deep River Police Service say some social media posts are claiming to identify or describe a suspect, but police have not identified anyone in connection with the incident or confirmed the accuracy of the information being circulated.
Officers responded to a serious incident in the area of McElligott Drive at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. One person was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police are asking residents to immediately stop sharing and remove any unverified information, photos or videos related to the investigation.
They say the spread of unconfirmed material could interfere with the investigation, affect witness evidence and hinder efforts to identify those responsible.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information, surveillance footage or dashcam video related to the incident is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident number E261314886.
