A morning traffic stop in Petawawa has led to impaired driving charges under the Criminal Code.
Officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police say they stopped a vehicle on Victoria Street shortly after 9 a.m. on Feb. 17 following a report of a suspected impaired driver. Police say a roadside screening device was administered and the driver was taken to the detachment for additional testing.
As a result of the investigation, 54-year-old Stephen Mitchell of Petawawa has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 milligrams or more.
Police say the accused received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Mitchell was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on March 10.
