The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has laid fraud-related charges following an investigation into a vehicle sale scam.
Police say the probe began in September 2025 after a resident reported paying a deposit to someone claiming to be a car dealer, but the vehicle was never delivered.
On Feb. 17, officers arrested 24-year-old Anaique Fankam Kakanou of Montreal, Quebec, in Hawkesbury. Charges include fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and personation with intent to obtain property. Kakanou is scheduled to appear in Pembroke court on March 17.
Residents are urged to report suspected scams to local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
