The Canadian Army Reserve’s 33 Canadian Brigade Group will be conducting an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) driver training course on roads and Ontario Federation of All-Terrain Vehicles (OFATV) Club trails from May 10 to 12, 2024, in the region between Ottawa and Petawawa.
Residents in the area may notice an increase in Canadian Army vehicles on local roads and trails, including the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT). The training course will follow pre-planned routes through Renfrew and Cobden, Ontario.
Participating personnel will make several stops during the exercise for rest, refueling, maintenance, and other training. Soldiers will not carry any weapons or ammunition during the training.
This exercise is vital for the Canadian Armed Forces’ operational readiness, enhancing their mobility and flexibility on the battlefield. It also prepares them for emergency responses in Canadian communities, including natural disasters such as flooding and wildfires.
All vehicle operators undergo regular training to maintain and enhance their skills in military vehicle operations. This helps test and improve their discipline, safety, and effectiveness in challenging environments.
The Canadian Army aims to minimize disruption during the training period and asks the public to exercise caution when encountering military vehicles. The public’s understanding and cooperation are appreciated.
