On May 5, 2024, Garrison Petawawa in Ontario will host two memorial ceremonies to honor fallen soldiers. Media are invited to attend both events.
The day will begin with the Fallen Jumper Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at the corner of Vimy Rd. and Arras Rd. This ceremony will commemorate seven paratroopers who tragically drowned in the Ottawa River in 1968 after being blown off course.
Following the ceremony, the unveiling of a memorial plaque at the Garrison Museum will take place at 11:45 a.m. This event honors Canadian peacekeepers who served in Cyprus, marking the 60th anniversary of the UN Force in Cyprus and the 50th anniversary of the 1974 war. This dedication was organized by veterans who served during the war and on peacekeeping missions in Cyprus.
Both events highlight the sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers and peacekeepers and provide an opportunity to pay tribute to their service. The ceremonies will take place at the Memorial Cairn and the Petawawa Military Museums.
