Gas prices in Renfrew County and Eastern Ontario are set to increase to levels not seen since August of 2022, when more of the country eased pandemic restrictions.
Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague predicts that prices in our listening area will jump a whopping 14 cents per litre, not only here but clear cross the province.
As of Thursday morning, Renfrew County’s gas prices have averaged out at $1.67 per litre, with gas bars in Pembroke and parts of Arnprior leading the way with prices reaching $1.77 per litre. Renfrew’s stations remain closer to the local average at about $1.64 per litre.
McTeague is blaming weakness in the Canadian dollar and the annual switch by refineries to the more expensive summer-blend gasoline.
The increase also follows the Federal Carbon Tax hike which has already added another 3 cents per litre in local pumps.
